...and they write stuff like, "Oh, I doubt this will win." Or, "It's not nearly good enough; I'm so outclassed." Take a hint from someone who runs contests like these: I WILL NOT PICK YOUR ENTRY IF YOU PUT THAT IN THE COMMENTS. There's a lot of reasons why, but here's the main two!
First off, you need to have some faith in your entry. Did you work hard on it? Do you like it? Then fucking own it, and flaunt that bitch!! If the person running the contest doesn't pick you, well, screw that. You liked it, and even if you didn't win, you'll just have to save up for a custom, because your entry fucking rocked!!
Second, you're attempting to garner sympathy/pity from both the other contestants and the judges (or you genuinely hate your entry, in which case, why bother entering in the first place?). This is rude, and - you shouldn't be surprised to learn this - ineffective. You want people to come on and post, "Aww, don't say things like that! You're awesome, and so's your entry!", don't you? Why? Wouldn't you rather say your entry is awesome in the artist comments and have people agree with you instead? What's better?
You: I suck.
People: No you don't.
OR
You: I'm awesome!
People: FUCK YEAH YOU ARE.
Anyway, that's my two cents for now. Choco out.

The last thing I colored was a lillifalke template
And now I'm working on something with a lot less color change between details. I just realized I'm working with less than half the layers I was before.
It's...it's like...an artistic orgasm (please note, that does not imply a REAL orgasm; that would just be awkward). It's so easy, but so rewarding. So much awesome for so little effort. Coloring in the lines never felt so good. I just thought I'd share my happiness with y'all.
Limited space first-come, first-served events...
...PISS ME THE FUCK OFF.
Seriously. Raffles are so much more fair, especially when a lot of your fanbase actually has a life outside of the internet...or, in my case, health problems which dragged me here, there, and fuck-all everywhere. You know how awesome it is to cough up blood for three days? If you don't, I hope you never do. I mean, I found out that it wasn't anything serious - the cough I already had tore open the scar tissue from my tonsillectomy. But before I figured that out, I was TERRIFIED. As a general rule, blood being anywhere it isn't supposed to be is a really, really bad sign. And then I come back to DA to find out
Never Mind-ish Thing
SkinnerCentauri (https://www.deviantart.com/skinnercentauri) pointed out in the comments that, given my lack of activity here, I probably don't need a Premium. Thing is, she's right. It's nice to make my page look all lovely and stuff, but really - my work on here has petered down to next to nothing, and until I really get back into it, it'd kind of be a waste.
Of course, StephenKingFTW (https://www.deviantart.com/stephenkingftw) graciously provided me with another month, bless her belly button  And I certainly plan on making the most of it!! But more in your interest, dears, while these commissions still stand FOR NOW (I did offer them knowing damn well what I was getting into, after all), they will only la
Holy life, Batman!
Where do I begin?! Wow, guys, I know I'm a total slacker, and I can't thank you enough for putting up with me still. You're amazing, all of you. So, I'm going to tackle the points of my life one bit at a time, for easy readability.
1. I have a job now! I'm an apprentice scriptwriter for Kenji Shimizu (and my brain is shitting kittens, believe me!!) This will obviously take a lot of my time, but I'm also hoping it will inspire me to draw more with my free time instead of playing video games or scowling at the paper and wondering why no art is appearing.
2. I've been assigned to a therapist by my doctor. She doesn't want to adjust my

Agreed!
Sometimes I think people are more sincere - there are those who put it out there in a, "F*ck it, I know it sucks, but I wanted to try!" kind of way. There was one contest that I wasn't going to enter because EVERYONE seemed like they were professional-grade in comparison to myself, but someone put a "I know this sucks, but it was fun and I wanted to try!" comment. It inspired me to join in.
But as you said, a lot of the time it seems to be compliment-fishing. I especially hate this behavior when it involves a piece of work that's really well done (I know "well done" is objective, but come on. While the value of one piece of art versus another can be argued, you know when your stuff looks *generally* better or worse than what it's being compared to). Some people submit art that looks incredible (and has a ton of favs/views to support it) , and they'll still be like "This is shit but oh well". Even if you're not fishing for compliments, what a slap in the face that can be to people who are trying to reach your level.
Just my opinion (and I'm sure I've slipped and been guilty in the past), but never say your work sucks without giving a reason why. If you don't like something about your work, point it out so that if you're receiving critiques, hopefully people will take your observations into account. It shows that - yeah, okay, you believe this is a far cry from your best work, but you're not so flippant as to disregard its merits (because if it's TOTALLY shit and a complete lost cause, why are you submitting it?).
