I Don't Hate Popular Fandoms...

Description

Pick your poison, people. You probably know what they are even if you've never watched the show or played the game/s. And I'm getting some of my bitch out here, because it has to be done.

Why don't I address my frustrations in order?

1. I hate that they're always on the front page.

Why can't I log in to DA without seeing these? Seriously. I like some popular fandoms, and it's always nice to find good fan art of them, but every fucking day. Even people's OCs now are meant to be placed in a pre-existing world contrived for them by Nintendo, Cartoon Network, or some similar company! MAKE IT STOP. Fan art is good. I draw it. Originality, however, is highly underrated these days.

2. I hate that the fans go batshit if you disagree.

They don't like your fandom, you leap down their throat. They don't like your pairing, they're obviously brain-dead. They don't like your favorite character, you never speak to them again. To anyone who fits this description (and you know who you are): do the world a favor and get off the internet until you grow up.

3. I hate that sucky fan art will win a contest.

I have suffered through this. I slave over a picture, pour my soul into the thing, spend hours coloring it, all for a skimpy prize of 50 :points: and a llama. And what happens? Some jackass comes on with a hasty, barely-colored scribble and a "domg i kinda based this off of (insert popular fandom here) and im sooooo proud of it!" 'Kinda' here meaning 'shamelessly'. And they win. There is a special circle of Hell for these people AND the judges responsible.

4. I hate that morons clog DA with hate groups.

"But choco," I hear some of you cry, "aren't you contributing to the problem with this stamp?!" No, no I am not. This is not a group. This is one stamp, one stamp which will probably never get more than one hundred views. It took me all of five minutes to make. Why the hell would someone go through all the trouble of petitioning DA for a hate group (which are supposed to be against TOS, by the way)?! What, did Pinkie Pie rape your dog? Did a Pikachu steal your lunch money when you were a kid? Does Princess Bubblegum give you nightmares? No? Then was that group with two members and seven watchers really worth the three-day wait needed for DA to approve it? I didn't think so.

5. I hate that intelligent new fandoms go ignored.

Has it occurred to you that there are some brilliant TV shows, small novel series, or comics that you don't even realize exist? If not, you are WAY too obsessed with your fandom. If you think you don't need any other interests because you have your fandom, you are beyond redemption, and may your death be swift and painless. I'm always on the prowl for new things to love on.

6. I hate that they attract so many brainless twits.

If you are not offended by this statement, chances are, you are not one of them. You recognize that there are the rabid psychos that ruin it for everyone, and you are ashamed for them. You may even apologize for them, and for that, I offer you a warm, toasty blanket and a heaping helping of comfort. It is not your fault. If you ARE offended by this statement, you are likely one of the brainless twits in question, and there is nothing for it except time and, perhaps, lengthy and invasive surgical procedures.

7. I hate that if I like it too, I'm called mainstream.

I have loved Pokemon since it first found its way to the US. Admittedly, I was a little late to the Adventure Time party, but I watch it faithfully now. The point is, people will give me hell for no reason except that I like them. The title 'mainstreamer' means little to me, but it is often accompanied by more colorful and insulting monickers. Do I care about the opinion of internet asswipes? No. But it's really annoying to log in and see an insult on my profile page, no matter how infrequently this happens.

8. I hate that if I dislike it, I'm called a hipster.

Hipster? Really? Is that the most creative thing you can come up with? Maybe your beloved fandom just can't keep my interest. I don't hate you for liking/loving them. Why do you feel the need to insist there's something wrong or antisocial about me because I don't?

9. I hate that they don't deserve the fame.

Let's face it. Most of this stuff isn't exactly Shakespeare. Besides the occasional witticism or clever quip, these series really are not that fantastic. Recycled concepts, starving plot lines, nothing new to look at. Pokemon has introduced some new ideas lately which keep me excited, but even I have to admit it's the same idea with new skin. You know why? Intelligent concepts escape most of humanity. We don't like to think during our entertainment - or worse, think about WHY we're being entertained! The horror!

#3 , i know what it is, i was not yet comfortable with digital art but I made efforts to make my drawing as beautiful as possible, I finished first in the contest but under the pressure of "people" the organizer put me tied with a drawing full of error that had won the hearts of the public. I saw it as the worst insult I could be made about my work, then she dares to come and see me saying "at least you keep first place". Thank you lord I had the strength not insult her.
